10.31 Study Log – Tyler McGinnis edition (?)

2.75h I did 30m of Tyler McGinnis’s A Beginner’s Guide to JavaScript’s Prototype tutorial. It was super helpful, but it was funny because he wrote some code, then said why it was bad, then rewrote it, and repeated. In the end I had some confusing notes that kept saying “that’s the wrong way, do it this way. Oh wait, that’s not the right way, do it this way!” Ultimately I learned a bunch about prototype, class, and when to use ‘new’ when instantiating an object.

I also did 45m of Tyler Mcginnis’s The Evolution of Async JavaScript: From Callbacks, to Promises, to Async/Await. This was mostly my first time hearing a lot of this so it was nice he took his time to explain everything. I have only run into promises very recently in the Redux tutorials, so some more exposure is very welcome.

After that I did 30m of freeCodeCamp and finished the bootstrap front end library section. That was quick because there isn’t a ton to comprehend, it’ll be interesting to see how well it sticks. I think bootstrap is something I would use the docs heavily for regardless.

I’m feeling good tonight. I don’t know why, I haven’t slept more than 7 hours in the last few weeks and no more than 8 in the last few months, but I’m somewhat settling into a groove with life. I don’t want to call it balance because nothing feels balanced, but I’m almost at peace with it. Tomorrow could easily bring a different feeling, but it’s nice to have this one today.

Tell me what you think.
