I’m a firm believer in celebrating small victories, so here we are. It has been a little over a week since I started this blog. I can’t say that my life has been monumentally changed, but I have definitely learned a lot. I am confident that documenting my process will allow me to stay honest about my goals and my effort levels. looking at my July study log I can tell that I studied 22.5 hours last week. I feel pretty good about that!
Initially I was concerned about finding the time to study in my schedule. So far that has not been super difficult. My next consideration is making sure that I’m learning the right things. I am still unsure about what to learn vs what career it preps me for, so I’m going to have to do more research.
The people around me are either saying “Go learn Javascript and Ruby on Rails” or “Stick with python since you know that a little already” but both sides also say “It doesn’t matter all that much what your first language is, because you will always need/want to learn another” That’s confusing.
The hardest part of being a beginner is that you don’t know how much you don’t know.
It’s tempting to convince yourself that you are a master of the internet now that ‘you know for loops’, but that feeling fades pretty quickly once you poke around on codewars or get stumped with a prickly bug. I’m going to keep learning more about what else I need to learn, and keep moving the goalposts as I find out how big this world is.
